Tiger Woods is 2/7 to win the U.S. Open after his birdie at the last forced an 18 hole play-off against Rocco Mediate.

His fellow American, who is chasing his maiden Major, is priced at 5/2 by bookmakers Ladbrokes.

Woods was as big as 7/1 to win his fourteenth major title after his second shot on 18, but was then backed all the way in by a huge surge of bets.

Mediate was as big as 10/1 when he stood on the tee on the sixth and as short as 1/4 after his second shot on 18.

Ladbrokes spokesman Robin Hutchison: "Woods was odds against on every hole of his last round but the floodgates opened after he stepped off the course. We wish Mediate well, but we'd be amazed if he can win it now."

The firm laid a £22,000 on Woods at 10/11 to a punter in Wiltshire and £21,500 on Mediate at 2/7 to another punter in Oxford.
