Graeme McDowell is among a three-way tie for the clubhouse lead after bad weather brought a premature finish to the second round of the Barclays Scottish Open.

The 31-year-old shot a superb bogey-free 64 to join Scott Jamieson and Peter Whiteford at the top of the leaderboard on 11-under before lightning forced the suspension of the day’s play.

McDowell made a superb start with a birdie at the par-four 10th and improved his score even further with an eagle at the par-five 12th and birdie at the par-four 13th. The Northern Irishman picked up two more, at the par-four 16th and par-five 18th to make the turn in 30, and he added two more over his final nine holes to complete a fine second day.

Joiining him in the lead are two Scots; Scott Jamieson and Peter Whiteford.

Teeing off at the 10th, Jamieson bounced back from an opening-hole bogey with a superb run of five successive birdies, and he ensured he would make the turn in 30 with his first eagle of the competition at the par-five 18th. He then added another eagle at the par-five second before stuttering over the final six holes with a birdie, a bogey and a double-bogey to finish the round in six-under. Whiteford, meanwhile, made eight birdies and two bogeys in a six-under-par 66.

Lee Westwood, who will return to the world number one spot with victory in Inverness, is four shots behind the front three having only completed 11 holes of his second round, and joining him on seven-under is the man who currently holds top spot, Luke Donald. Donald was able to complete nine holes on Friday.
