Thomas Aiken is the bookmakers’ favourite to win his second successive tournament at the Iberdrola Open this weekend.
South African Aiken recorded his maiden European Tour success at the Open de Espana this past-weekend, winning by two shots from Denmark’s Anders Hansen, and the 27-year-old is 12/1 (
Betfred) to leave Pula GC in Mallorca with another accolade this weekend.
An in the absence of many of the tour’s bigger names due to The Players Championship, Frenchman Gregory Bourdy is the second favourite having previously tasted success at this course, winning the Mallorca Classic in 2007. The 29-year-old’s best finish this season is second place at the Maybank Malaysian Open last month, and he is 14/1 (
Victor Chandler) to go one better in Mallorca.
Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal came up short in his bid to win his home national tournament last weekend, and the 27-year-old is 22/1 (Extrabet) to record his first victory of the campaign, while fellow countrymen Jose Manuel Lara and Alvaro Velasco are 25/1 (
bwin) and 30/1 (
totesport) respectively.
Scotland’s Paul Lawrie has enjoyed success on Spanish soil this season, winning the Open de Andalucia de Golf in March, and he is 25/1 (
