Ladbrokes are paying six places on the 2012 Irish Open

Despite being a 50/1 shot Ladbrokes punters have latched on to the fact that the Ulsterman will be playing on his home course of Royal Portrush and have been backing him left, right, and centre. And one punter is that convinced of his impending victory by staking £1000 each-way on Clarke.

Ladbrokes spokesperson Jessica Bridge told Golfbettingpro.com: “The reality is Clarke should be double the price he is, but the sheer weight of the money coming in for him on his home course will see him tee off as the biggest loser in the outright book.”

World number two Rory McIlroy tees off as the 6/1 favourite, but the punters' money has been coming in instead for Graeme McDowell (10/1), Padraig Harrington (10/1) and Paul Lawrie at 25/1.

Jessica Bridge added: “Again, punters aren't interested in McIlroy. However, his compatriots are being backed off the boards.”
