Luke Donald wins 2012 PGA Championship at Wentworth

Luke Donald produced an impressive final round of 68 to win the 2012 PGA Championship by four shots from Justin Rose and Paul Lawrie.

Luke Donald won the 2012 PGA Championship at Wentworth for the second successive year, thanks to a fourth consecutive score of under 70.

The world number two had led the tournament by two shots ahead of the final round and Donald's bogey at the fourth hole brought him back to ten under and tied with playing partner Justin Rose. Birdies at six, seven, ten, twelve and fifteen put Donald firmly back into contention and the closing holes were a mere formality.

It was a perfect display of championship golf and Rose was never really able to cope although he could have been closer had he holed two or three very short putts on the final day. The Englishman's day was summed up by a missed putt on the final hole that cost him second place outright, and a difference in prize money of almost £150,000.

Rose shared second place with Paul Lawrie, who carded an incredible 66 on the final day to fly up the leaderboard. Ernie Els, who had started the day six shots behind Donald, was one of the poorest performers and could only finish tied for seventh after a final round of par.

Donald's win sees him move back to number one in the world, ahead of Rory McIlroy who missed the cut at Wentworth, and will give him confidence ahead of the British Open.
