Santo da Serra G.C., Madeira
Course Par Value: 72
Course Yardage: 6,826
A very hilly, cliff-top course, 2,300 feet above sea level and exposed to winds off the Atlantic. The undulating fairways are generous, but the poa greens are tricky to read and slopey. The four par-5’s are the 3rd, 7th, 11th and 16th.
The course is host to the Madeira Island Open, a dual-ranking event on both the European and Challenge Tours. Since 2007, it has been played alongside the WGC-CA Championship in Florida, so big names are thin on the ground.
Bettingpro Notes: The combined effects of wind and altitude make club selection tricky, which favours players who have played the course before rather than newcomers. An early morning round 1 tee time is advantageous.
