The season’s second Major, the US Open, is almost upon us and bookmakers will have a host of markets for punters to choose from.
The elite of the golfing world, including current world number one Luke Donald, will battle the tricky Congressional Country Club course between June 16 and June 19 for one of the sport’s most prestigious prizes.
Of course the bookies will be offering odds in the winner’s market, but there is much more than that for punters to sink their teeth into, including the winning margin and whether or not there will be a play-off this year.
Graeme McDowell has already claimed via his Twitter feed that “no-one will break par”, and later added at a press conference: “I’m hoping I got the wrong tee at 11. I can’t really see much positive to say about that golf hole. If you’re selling four 4s, I think I’m buying.” Therefore consistency will be the key to success in Bethesda, Maryland and that means the top-10 and top-20 finish markets could prove to be wise choices.
And speaking of wise choices, the First-round leader market could be another smart option with an unpredictable course meaning there could be a surprise name at the top of the leaderboard after the opening 18 holes.
The nationality markets are also something to consider with strong entrants from England, Northern Ireland and the United States. Lee Westwood and Luke Donald have battled it out for the world number one spot for several weeks and you could get involved in that scrap by looking into the top Englishman market, with the likes of Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose helping to form a strong contingent from the country. And if you throw Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell into the mix the Top GB and Ireland player becomes an appealing option too.
Victor Chandler are expected to continue their “Hole-in-Won!” special which, up to June 6, had already paid out 18 times this season. All you need to do is have a bet on a player to win the event outright – win or each-way – and if your selection loses but has a hole-in-one during the tournament, Victor Chandler will pay you out as a winner! However, an ace over such a monstrous course is looking unlikely.
And there are just some of the markets and promotions available to you ahead of this huge tournament. You can be guaranteed that there will be much, much more available as the US Open draws closer!
