Which player will make the European Ryder Cup team?

James Cameron - 22 Jul 2008

Coral today opened betting on which players will represent Europe in this year's Ryder Cup and make Colin Montgomerie odds-against, at 6-4, to make the team.

With high profile stars like Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose far from certain to earn an automatic place, Nick Faldo may well have to overlook Montgomerie when choosing his two wild card picks.

"A Ryder Cup without Monty would be like Christmas without turkey but with just five tournaments left the race for places is more competitive than I can ever remember and Faldo may well have to overlook the talismanic Scot", said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

Jimenez, at 1-40, and McDowell, at 1-25, have surely done enough to earn an automatic place while Garcia, at 1-50, and Rose, at 1-8, are highly likely to make the team either through an automatic place or a wild card.

The battle for places then centres around ten players, headed by Soren Hansen at 4-11, who are all still capable of playing their way into the European side.

To Qualify For the European Ryder Cup Team 1-50 Garcia, 1-40 Jimenez, 1-25 McDowell, 1-8 Rose, 4-11 Hansen, 2-5 Kaymer, 8-15 Poulter, 8-15 Wilson, 8-11 Fisher, 6-4 Montgomerie, 9-4 Casey, 7-2 Dougherty, Donald, 11-2 Kjeldsen, 10-1 Webster, 14-1 Bourdy, 16-1 Finch (No Offers Harrington, Westwood, Stenson, Karlsson)
