To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Amen Corner, Totesport has priced up a special market, asking which player will complete holes 11, 12 and 13 in the fewest number of shots. Tiger Woods is the 5/1 favourite, followed by Phil Mickelson on 8/1.
Amen Corner is seen by many as the most critical part of the Augusta course and is perhaps the most famous three-hole stretch in golf. It was handed its name in 1958 by Sports Illustrated writer, Herbet Warren Wind, who used the term in an article on Arnold Palmers first Masters win. The term was borrowed from an old jazz recording “Shouting at Amen Corner.”
Paul Petrie, totesport spokesman commented, “Tiger Woods has described these as three of the most challenging holes in golf and there is no doubt whoever plays them the best will have a great chance of lifting the title.”
