Abu Dhabi Championship Preview – Kaymer aiming to tame Tiger

Martin Kaymer (credit: Wikipedia)
The world's top four launch their 2012 European Tour campaigns at this week’s Abu Dhabi Championship.

Luke Donald (12/1 William Hill), Lee Westwood (12/1), Rory Mcllroy (13/2) and Martin Kaymer (13/2) return to action. They will also be competing against the former World number one Tiger Woods (9/1). He has chosen to play a European Tour event rather than compete at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Woods will be looking to continue his resurgence, at the end of 2011 he won the Chevron Challenge. It was his first win since the JB Were Masters in Australia in 2009. He has won the Dubai Desert Classic in both 2006 and 2008, so he has form in the Middle East.

The world's most in-form golfer will also be taking part at the event. Branden Grace (55/1) has won back to back events in South Africa and he is playing fantastic golf. He beat a weak field at the Joburg Open and then he turned it on, once again at a links course last week.

Colsaerts (40/1) went close at the Volvo Golf Champions event. The big-hitting Belgium player shot a course record on the opening day, he hit a stunning sixty-four. The course was tough and his short-play was great.

Unlike many of the bigger names at the event, he has an event under his belt this season. Many of the players will be rusty after a break over the Christmas period. They may not find any form for a few events. Players like Schwartzel (25/1) and Westwood spent the backend of last year, playing competitions across the globe.

I get the impression with the Major winner Schwartzel, that he is tired. Hit putting has been weak and he has been inconsistent from the tee. He failed to make the cut, in the Joburg Open recently.

Colsaerts also has course form. He finished tied eleventh last year and he hit a sixty-seven in the second round. He looks a big price at 40/1 to win his first event of the season.

Germany's Kaymer (13/2) has an incredible record in this competition. After winning the trophy in 2008, he has lifted it again in 2010 and 2011. He clearly enjoys playing the event and he has proven that he can win fresh. It has been his first event of the season over the past few years.

Wales' Rhys Davies has won on the European Tour and he is one of the top putters in golf. He has been playing and practicing his golf in America since the turn of the year and he has course form. He was in the top thirty last year and he was tied for sixth in 2010. He has been mentioned as a future Ryder Cup player and he looks a big each-way price at 150/1.
