Byron Nelson Championship Betting Preview

Ross Aylward - 18 May 2010

The PGA Tour stays in Texas for the Byron Nelson Championship, played at TPC Four Seasons Resort, Irving.

Ross' Three Off The Tee:-

Dustin Johnson @ 25/1 William Hill
Up amongst the favourites this week but deserves to be. Granted, recent form figures of 40-38-29-34 might not strike you as those of a player about to win but that run includes the Masters and Players Championship (tied-34th) and this is a far easier assignment. What I really like about him this week, though, is his propensity to repeat previous good course form and, having successfully defended his AT & T title back in February, there must be a good chance he can better his fourth place finish here last year.

Kenny Perry @ 50/1 Ladbrokes
Has had a poor 2010 by his standards but he's always played his best golf in the summer months and recent form - tied-26th at the Masters and tied-22nd at the Players - hinted at better to come. A new training regime and coach may be responsible and on a course that will suit, there is enough juice in his price of 50/1 (40/1 general) to get involved.

Charlie Wi @ 60/1 Skybet
Ditto Wi who looks a shade over-priced at 60/1 given his record here of seventh in 2008 and tied-23rd last year and his solid recent form, which includes a tie for 17th at last week's Valero Texas Open. Like my other two picks, Wi is proven in windy conditions and, with wind speeds of up to 20mph expected this week, that will be to his advantage.

Bubbling Under: Spencer Levin (75/1 bet365)
Another who can play in the wind and comes into this on the back of a season-high finish of tied-9th, his fifth top-25 of the year. Another top-10 finish here at 6/1 (Stan James) is well within his compass.

Punters Beware: Hunter Mahan
Cannot be ruled out with any confidence but looks short enough in the betting at around 18/1, nevertheless. Always seems to start slowly before mounting a late challenge, so might be one for in-play punters.

Recommended Bets:

Dustin Johnson 1.5pts each-way @ 25/1 William Hill
Kenny Perry 1pt each-way @ 50/1 Ladbrokes
Charlie Wi 1pt each-way @ 60/1 Skybet
