The Masters: Top Debutant Tips

Anthony Kim and Rory McIlroy dominate this market  - 11/4 and 9/2 respectively with Blue Square - but my advice is to ignore them both and go for a player with local knowledge – OLIVER WILSON, who can be backed at a tasty 12/1 (bet365, William Hill, Ladbrokes).

The man from Mansfield is as English as they come but Augusta is like a second home to him as he lived there for six years when attending Augusta State University on a golf scholarship, and would have played the course countless times. That experience, along with masses of local support from old college friends, should give him a significant edge in this market.

With 12/1 available, he’s four times the price of Rory McIlroy, who is undoubtedly a superstar in the making but is not four times superior to Wilson, not at this stage of his career at least. They both played Doral last month and, while McIlroy was receiving all the media attention, Wilson was quietly finishing ahead of him and fifth place there (McIlroy was 20th), earned him top European honours.

So, he has extensive knowledge of the course, is proven on US soil and is a value price – need I say anymore?!
