McIlroy came into the second day with a share of the lead but two double-bogeys ensured he would not remain at the summit after 36 holes.
The Northern Irishman covered up those two horror-holes and two further bogeys by making six birdies to complete a par-72 round and remain five-under.
Former world number one Woods joins him on that total after following up his opening-round 70 with a three-under-par display that consisted of five birdies and two bogeys.
McIlroy and Woods are two shots behind leader Thorbjorn Olesen (16/1) who carded seven birdies and two bogeys in a five-under-par round that improved him to seven-under, a shot clear of Gareth Maybin (25/1) and Matteo Manassero (14/1).
Graeme McDowell (40/1) is now three-under following a round of 69, with world number one Luke Donald (33/1) two shots further back after he shot 72.
World number two Lee Westwood (66/1) shot his second straight par round on Friday, but Martin Kaymer is heading him early after a one-over-par second round left him six-over though 36 holes.
