The American was one of those that managed to complete his second round, but a one-under-par 70 meant he could not extend his lead in this competition. Mickelson (7/4 Tournament Winner) made an eagle, two birdies and three bogeys on the day, and that was enough to put him one-shot clear of Pat Perez (16/1).
Jimmy Walker (20/1), Matt Kuchar (10/1), Carl Pettersson (20/1), Jarrod Lyle (40/1) and Jonathan Byrd (20/1) are all tied for third place on four-under, with Marc Leishman (40/1), Spencer Levin (25/1) and Bubba Watson (16/1) a shot further back after 36 holes.
The likes of KJ Choi (25/1), Stewart Cink (40/1), Zach Johnson (33/1) and Keegan Bradley (33/1) are among a group of players on two-under at the halfway stage. Joining them is Englishman Justin Rose (33/1), who made an eagle and two birdies on the day but failed to make an impact on the leaderboard because of three bogeys in a five-hole spell.
World number one Luke Donald (33/1) slipped to even-par after two birdies and three bogeys gave him a one-over score on Friday.
