Paul Lawrie claimed a four shot win in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles thanks to a final round of 68.

Paul Lawrie continued excellent season by claiming victory in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles to move into the top 30 in the world rankings.

The veteran Scotsman had gone into the final round at Gleneagles with a one shot lead and a birdie on the second hole put him a commanding position. The former Open champion never looked in any danger from then on in and was able to simply plot a sensible path around the course.

Birdies followed at nine, eleven and fourteen and even a bogey at fifteen couldn't derail the Lawrie charge with another birdie at the next hole giving him a very impressive four under par 68. His playing partner Romain Wattel finished on level par, five behind, leaving Australian Brett Rumford second at twelve under for the tournament, four behind Lawrie.

The victory was only the second time in his career that Lawrie had won twice on the European Tour in the same season and will provide the perfect boost for both the 43-year-old and his team mates ahead of the upcoming Ryder Cup.
