Rory McIlroy is the world number one after winning the Honda Classic and is now a popular bet to win the US Masters.
Sky Bet make Rory McIlroy an 11/2 shot in their latest golf betting markets to win both the US PGA Tour and European Tour money lists in 2012.
McIlroy moved to the top of the world rankings for the first time with his two-shot victory in Sunday’s Honda Classic at the PGA National.
The 22-year-old golfing sensation held off a charge by Tiger Woods to win his third PGA Tour title and in doing so ended Luke Donald’s nine-month reign as world number one.
Last year Donald became the first player in history to win both the PGA and European Tour money lists in the same season and the online betting firm are now 11/2 McIlroy will repeat the feat of his Ryder Cup team-mate in 2012.
Sky Bet’s Head of Golf, John Rhodes told Golfbettingpro: “Rory has been in terrific form this year and looks in total control of his game. He wasn’t at his best in the final round on Sunday but scrambled superbly and deserved his win.
“He’s currently second in the US rankings and heads the Race to Dubai so the 11/2 has already attracted plenty of early interest.”
Sky Bet are also 4/1 that McIlroy will hold off the challenge of Donald, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer and retain the World No1 spot for the rest of the year.
With a month to go before the US Masters, the Northern Irishman has been installed as the joint 9/2 favourite with four-time champion Woods to win at Augusta.
This week McIlroy bids for back-to-back titles when he competes in the World Golf Championship Cadillac Championship at the famous Blue Monster course. McIlroy is Sky Bet’s 11/2 favourite from Woods 13/2, Phil Mickelson 12/1, Lee Westwood 14/1 and Luke Donald 25/1.
