Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy go head to head in the first two rounds of The Barclays 2012 at Bethpage Black, New York.

The Barclays is the first of four events that comprise the FedEx Cup play-offs on the PGA Tour, and golf’s two biggest draws start their challenge at 13:16 BST on Thursday.

Woods remains the only player to have won three times in America this year and goes into the play-offs hoping to remain No 1 on the points list.

As is the tradition in the play-offs, groups for the first two rounds are formed according to where players sit in the standings, which means Woods and McIlroy (No 3) play together.

But instead of being joined by the No 2, two-time 2012 winner Jason Dufner who is taking a week off, the duo will be in the company of Zach Johnson, the No 4.

Several bookmakers cannot split the star pair in the betting but McIlroy is a stand-out 8/1 with BetVictor to add this title to the US PGA Championship he won two weeks ago, while Betfred go 8/1 about Woods.
