Suzann Pettersen wrapped up a 1 UP victory over Cristie Kerr in the final of the Sybase Match Play Championship in Gladstone, New Jersey.

World number three Pettersen birdied the second and fourth holes to take a 2 UP lead early on at Hamilton Farm Golf club, but Kerr was not about to fold and levelled the match with two birdies of her own at the fifth and eighth.

Pettersen immediately responded by moving ahead once more when she birdied the ninth and, after the two players halved the next five holes, she moved 2 UP once again at the 15th.

Kerr again battled back and birdied the 17th to take the match to the final hole, but her Norwegian opponent hung on the clinch the title.

Pettersen said afterwards: “I knew I had to try and get off to a pretty strong start, just show her that I was right there to make putts the same way she does to her opponents, and I felt very good coming into the back nine.

“I don't know if it's been a lot of golf or a few mental errors late in the day, but we both left a little bit out there. It almost looked like none of us won this.”

Meanwhile, Na Yeon Choi won the consolation match with a 4&3 win over Angela Stanford.
