Crowne Plaza Invitational Tips - Bo Van Pelt the best bet at Colonial

Bo Van Pelt can give his regular backers their first return of the year in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial this week.

The big American has enjoyed a consistent year so far without managing to break into the top five which rewards each-way punters.

However, Van Pelt has finished in the top 10 in five of his 11 tournaments and it is just a matter of time before the Tulsa-based player breaks through.

Some of his best performances have been in top-quality fields too, with an eighth place finish in the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral followed by his seventh at the Players’ Championship two weeks ago.

And another sign of Van Pelt’s fine form was his superb 64 in the last round of the Masters which lifted him into a tie for 17th.

Plus, his excellent record at Colonial gives another reason why he should be backed. He was fifth on his debut in 2004, had two more top-20 finishes and in the last two years has notched up placings of 10th and third.

At odds of 28/1 with Paddy Power, the player who took a deserved week off when celebrating his 37th birthday last Wednesday looks well worth backing.

David Toms is the defending champion and the former US PGA winner will have his supporters at 30/1 with Blue Square despite having had a quiet year so far.

The 45-year-old was on fire in May 2011 when he captured this title and is showing signs of recapturing that form with progressively better finishes in his last four tournaments, culminating in a 10th place at Sawgrass.

There is every chance Toms can improve again on a course he enjoys and this looks a good opportunity for him to bolster his chances of a return to the Ryder Cup team.
