Firestone Country Club, South Akron, OH
Course Par Value: 70
Course Yardage: 7,283
The South Course is a really long par-70 track, with six of the ten par-4’s over 450 yards and a 677 yard
par-5 signature hole (15th). Skilful iron play is required to the small bentgrass greens. Arnold Palmer called it a "Monster" after scoring a triple-bogey on the 16th hole during the first PGA Championship held here, Since then, the course has been made even tougher with both the par-5 2nd and par-4 11th lengthened and narrowed.
The World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational is traditionally played at Firestone. It is one of three World Golf Championships constituent events sanctioned on the PGA and European Tour – the others being the Accenture World Match Play Championship and CA-Championship. As the title suggests, play is by invite only which makes for a small field and, with no halfway cut, big cheques are guaranteed for all.
Golf Bettingpro Notes: Back Tiger Woods. He practically owns Firestone Country Club, winning five of the last eight events played here!
