PGA Tour pro Davis Love III led the 2002 redesign of Forest Oaks, which included new greens and several hole alignments. The conventional 36-36 layout has four par-5’s, the longest of which is the 9th at 584 yards, and four par-3’s at the 4th, 6th, 12th and 17th, part of a tricky finish to the round. The 7th is a driveable par-4 at 354 yards. The bentgrass greens are larger than average and many feature false fronts which can make approach shots awkward.
Forest Oaks has been the venue for the Wyndham Championship (formerly the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic and before that the Greater Greensboro Open) since 1977. The event itself is much older having first been played in 1938.
