Sergio Garcia has a share of the HP Byron Nelson Championship lead at the half-way stage.

The Spaniard shot a four-under-par 66 for the second day running to join American Ryan Palmer at the summit on eight-under, three hosts ahead of Tim Petrovic and Scott Piercy.

In windy conditions Garcia dropped a shot at the par-four third, but he soon made amends with five birdies over his final 15 holes. He hit 14 of 18u greens and 11 of fairways, while needing just 27 putts on the day.

The Spaniard said afterwards: “If you look at my wins, usually not much of them have been bad ball-striking weeks, so we all know it’s the strength of my game.

“When I’m feeling good, even in windy conditions like today, I feel like I can control the ball flight and I can hit some good, solid shots.”

Also on eight-under is Palmer following a second-round 67, but he could have held sole possession of first place had he not bogeyed the par-four 15th.

Petrovic and Piercy are their closest rivals on five-under having shot 66 and 69 respectively, with Nick Watney (68), Joe Ogilvie (70) and Chad Collins (69) a further shot back.

Overnight leader Jeff Overton slipped down the leaderboard to two-under after a disappointing second round that saw him make six bogeys and just two birdies in a four-over-74.
