Montreux Golf and Country Club Course Guide and Betting tips

Ross Aylward - 17 Jan 2008

Montreux Golf and Country Club, Reno, NV Course
Par Value: 72
Course Yardage: 7,472

The Montreux course is at altitude, so plays around 10-15% shorter than its advertised yardage. Since being remodelled in 2003, the course is now set in woodland, with water, in the form of man-made lakes and natural creeks, featuring on seven holes. The course is known for the ‘Bear Trap’ (named after the course designer Jack Nicklaus) – the long, right-to-left par-4 15th, the tricky par 3 16th, and the 636 yard par-5 17th. However, the most difficult hole is the par-4 8th, which has a 138-foot drop from tee to fairway. The bentgrass greens are above average size and undulating.

The course has been the venue for the Reno-Tahoe Open, which is traditionally played the same week as the World Golf Championships - Bridgestone Invitational. Because of that, the field tends to be low on quality.

Golf Betting Pro Notes: When betting in-play, it’s worth noting that scores are normally lower in the morning as the Sierra wind gets up in the afternoon. In turn, this makes it difficult to put back-to-back scores together.
