TPC at Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL
Course Par Value: 72
Course Yardage: 7,215
The TPC at Sawgrass is something of a ‘new’ course for 2008. After the 2006 Players’ Championship, the entire playing surface was dug up and replaced with new Bermuda grass, with the intention being to make the course firmer, faster and more challenging. However, its famous 17th hole - a par 3 with an island green - is still there in all its glory, while the par-4 18th is as tricky as ever. With water in play on many holes and the greens generally well-protected, the TPC at Sawgrass remains a course that rewards accuracy off the tee and fairway.
The Players - commonly referred to as the ‘fifth’ major - has been played at Sawgrass since 1982. After the majors, it’s the event that carries the most prestige for winning. Starting in 2007, the event will now be played in May of each year, much later than its traditional March slot. The reason being that this will give the new Bermuda grass more time to grow.
Golf Betting Pro Notes: This is usually a difficult course to play catch-up on so, if you’re betting in-play, particularly from halfway, don’t look too far down the leaderboard.
