Only six players managed to finish their opening round as torrential rain and lightning wreaked havoc on the Travelers Championship.
Play was halted at 11:22 am local time on Thursday (16:22 BST) and after a lengthy delay officials confirmed they were hoping to resume play at 17:45 pm local time.
However, further bad weather came through Cromwell, Connecticut and that forced the restart to be pushed back to 18:30 pm, but officials soon decided to suspend play for the day with half the field yet to start their first round.
The current clubhouse leader is American Kris Blanks who shot four birdies, an eagle and four bogeys in a two-under-par 68 that beat the rain. Ben Curtis is a further shot behind, with Graham DeLaet even-par and both Scott Stallings and Steve Elkington one-over. Paul Goydos was the only other player to finish his round, shooting a two-over-par 72.
The first round is scheduled to resume at 07:00 am local time on Friday (12:00 BST) with the second wave of players due to begin their opening rounds from 07:15.
