Amateur Patrick Cantlay holds a four-shot clubhouse lead as the Travelers Championship continues to run behind schedule.

Torrential rain and lightning meant only six players were able to finish their first rounds on Thursday, while half of the field were unable to begin their participation until Friday morning.

That meant it was always going to be a race against time, and darkness, on Friday, but the weather in Cromwell, Connecticut held up to allow a number on players to complete both their first and second rounds.

And it is American teenager Cantlay who leads the way on 13-under having followed up his first-round 67 with an excellent bogey-free 60 that consisted of eight birdies and an eagle.

He heads into the weekend four shots ahead of Webb Simpson, Vaughan Taylor, DJ Trahan and Alexandre Rocha on nine-under, and the quartet is joined in a share of second place by Andres Romero but he still has 13 holes left to play in his second round.

Englishman Brian Davis is a among a group of players on eight-under having shot five birdies and two bogeys in a three-under-par 70 before darkness brought an end to the day’s play at TPC River Highlands.

The second round will resume at 07:00 local time on Saturday morning (12:00 BST) and once the cut is determined players will be grouped in threesomes and sent off both tees for third round, which is scheduled to get under way around 11:00 local time (16:00 BST).
