Jim Furyk holds a slender lead heading into the final round of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

The home golfer shot a 70 in the third round to end on 11-under par, but a high-class field will pile on the pressure when Sunday’s final round tees off.

Former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen closed to within a shot of Furyk with a solid 68 on the penultimate day at Firestone, while fellow American Keegan Bradley is four shots back after a 67.

A shot further adrift of Furyk are Rory McIlroy and Steve Stricker, with the former upbeat about his form after a 67 moved him into contention for the final round.

The Northern Irishman, who has struggled for form in recent weeks, said after a second successive 67: "Yeah, it's getting there, it definitely is. I've worked hard to get it back.

"Obviously my expectations every time I tee it up are pretty high and not to live up to my own expectations is not nice.
"But I feel like I'm definitely moving in the right direction."

McIlroy is 20/1 with bet365 to win the title in Akron, Ohio, with Furyk 5/4 and Oosthuizen 7/5.

England's Justin Rose recorded a superb 66 on Saturday to move to within six shots of the lead, with compatriot Luke Donald a shot further back after a disappointing 71.
