Three to follow at the Wyndham Championship

With the 2012 PGA Championship now in the books, attention now turns to this week’s Wyndham Championship where there is plenty to play for.

The Wyndham Championship is long-established as the final regular FedEx Cup event and therefore the last chance for players outside the top-125 to qualify for the forthcoming play-offs bonanza.

Every year, the spectre of all that FedEx lucre spurs a few previously struggling players to life, usually at big prices due to their poor first-half of the season. A second angle involves the course, Sedgefield CC. Driving accuracy is always more important than length around this short par-70 and could be even more so now new, faster greens have been installed, which will demand maximum second-shot control. All three picks meet both criteria.

First up, Jerry Kelly at 140.0 (Betfair), who lies just inside the cut line at 120th on the FedEx list after a couple of top-15s from his last four starts. This time last year, Kelly came to Sedgefield and produced his best result of the season with fourth place, sparking a lucrative run of five top-25s from his next six events, including the first three play-offs. He also made the top-ten here in 2008 and very much ticks the right statistical boxes, ranking fourth for driving accuracy and sixth for greens in regulation amongst this field over the past three months.

Gary Christian has already done enough to make next week's line-up, climbing to 114th place with top-25s in five of his last six events, but is worth a punt whilst obviously in form. Nobody in this line-up has hit a higher percentage of fairways over the past three months than Christian, and only Jason Dufner is ahead on greens in regulation. These aren't the numbers of a 160.0 chance.

Finally, a 15-time worldwide winner, including nine on the PGA Tour at 200.0. From 142nd place on the money list, Stuart Appleby needs something special but we've seen him similarly defy the market and recent form in the past. Two years ago, he headed to the Greenbrier Classic totally out of form with money list issues, yet shot a final-round 59 to win. Apples has never been the most accurate, so it may be significant that he ranks fourth in that driving category, enabling some better results with three top-25s in his last six events.

The trading advice is to stake four units on this trio, then place orders at 10.0 and 3.0 on each player. By hitting just one target, you will triple your initial outlay.
