Tiger Woods 10/1 favourite to be Ryder Cup 2012 top points scorer

Tiger Woods is a best-priced 10/1 favourite to be the top points-scorer in the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah from September 28-30.

The former world No 1, for whom Sky Bet are the only bookmaker offering double-figure odds in this market, is returning to the course where he won the 1999 US PGA Championship after a final-round duel with Sergio Garcia.

However, Woods has always had his critics when it comes to the Ryder Cup, with some pundits thinking he is too individually focused and not enough of a team player.

In six Ryder Cup appearances, the 36-year-old has tasted victory only once, in 1999, having missed the Americans’ 2008 triumph at Valhalla because of injury.

Woods has played 29 matches with his record being 13 wins, 14 defeats and two half points, which does not inspire confidence for his chances in the top points-scorer market. However, he has won six of his last nine games.

Some bookmakers have world No 1 Rory McIlroy as joint favourite with Woods, the Northern Irishman making his second appearance in the event having taken two points from his four matches in 2010.

Ryder Cup 2012 top points-scorer betting (best odds available):
