Bookmaker William Hill make Bubba Watson 33/1 to win the Open Championship following his play-off victory at the US Masters.
Watson was a pre-tournament 40/1 outsider with
William Hill and his victory on Sunday was great news for the bookies after a number of well fancied runners failed to deliver at the tournament.
The American is now a 33/1 shot to win the Open Championship later this year, for which Tiger Woods is the 6/1 favourite.
Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams told Bettingpro.com: “Bubba was a fantastic result for the bookies, although he is a very fine golfer, not many believed that his game could hold up at Augusta for the full four days.”
Woods was particularly disappointing this week and he is now 1/4 to fail to win a major in 2012, while Rory Mcllroy is also a 1/4 shot to fail to win a major this year. Luke Donald is 1/12 to fail, with Lee Westwood 1/16.
Adams added: “Westwood, Wood, Mcllroy and Donald are the best backed players at every major, next time one wins we are likely to be on the end of a million-pound payout.”
