US Masters 2012 Result – Bubba Watson win costs bookmaker

Bookmaker Coral is counting the cost of Bubba Watson’s play-off victory in the Masters this weekend, a result that was just one of several that hit the firm.

Watson staged a late rally at Augusta to join Louis Oosthuizen on 10-under after 72 holes, and the American then completed his comeback by winning the tournament at the second extra hole.

Coral’s David Stevens told Bettingpro.com: “Although three of the biggest ante-post losers in our book – Justin Rose, Luke Donald and Jason Day – never really looked like winning, going into the final day only Bubba Watson and Lee Westwood among those in contention were losers for us.

“We were rooting for Louis Oosthuizen throughout the last round, as a win for the South African would have been a six-figure winner for us.

“As well as Watson’s victory and Westwood’s third place, we also took a hit on various Make The Cut groups, with 7/2 about the Past Masters (Mickelson, Schwartzel, Johnson and Immelman) and 12/1 shots Super Swedes (Hanson, Jacobsen, Stenson and Karlsson) doing the most damage in a year that saw the most players make the weekend since 1966.

“On the plus side, turnover reached record levels and there was also some consolation for Peter Hanson backers, as our offer to refund stakes on the third round leader if they failed to win the tournament came into play, meaning those who placed outright bets on him between Monday April 2 (08:00 BST) and the start play on Thursday will get their money back.”
